Hello and welcome to the month of relationships!
Relationships in any degree are never what we perceive they will be. When we attempt to force them into a certain formula or idealism we usually fail, only causing us to endure unnecessary pain.
This month I want to take a fresh look at relationships and throw the rulebook out the window. When you stop focusing on what your perfect relationship should look like and how it is meant to be, is when you realise that happiness in relationships is whatever you make of it.
The key to having successful relationships is a combination of three elements: Reality, Communication and Affinity.
The first step is to establish a shared understanding of one another’s reality (view of the relationship) and understand what each person perceives as acceptable and not acceptable behaviour. The ability to gain a shared understanding comes with your ability to communicate with one another.
Good communication keeps each of you in a place of understanding and allows you to prevent misunderstandings from escalating. Always remember though to communicate with compassion and from a space of love.
The last thing you need to maintain a great relationship is affinity (in the physical sense). When we are close to our friends and family and spend time with them laughing and having fun, the bond is strengthened and we grow together.
Relationships and your enjoyment of them are no longer a construct of Hollywood directors and scriptwriters. Good relationships, passion and love is simply whatever you want and understand it to be.
If both people in the relationship are honest, have a shared understanding of each other’s expectations and are happy, then they have a great relationship, regardless of other people’s opinions.
It is time for you to live your life today and take action in this moment to be happy. The only moment that matters is the moment of now. So be sure to make it count!
Yours in Success
